Flowers for days worth gathering for.

Some days call for more flowers than others.

An intimate wedding. A long lunch. A birthday around a table. A celebration in the garden. Something small and lovely with the people who matter.

For these days, I create seasonal flowers from what is growing here on the Patch, supplemented thoughtfully with locally grown flowers from flower farms close by when needed. The flowers won’t be chosen from a catalogue or made to match an exact picture. Instead, we’ll talk about how you want the day to feel — the colours you love, the setting, the season, the people — and I’ll take it from there.

The result will be flowers that belong to the day and, hopefully, couldn’t quite have belonged to any other.

Led by the season

There is a certain amount of trust involved in working with seasonal flowers.

And I rather like that. You might tell me you love soft colour, rambling arrangements, old-fashioned flowers and things that look as though they could have been gathered from a garden.

What I can’t necessarily tell you six months beforehand is exactly which flowers will be in them, because the garden doesn’t work that way. What I can do is listen carefully, understand what you are drawn to, and grow and gather with your day in mind. Then, when the time comes, I choose from what is flowering beautifully.

Sometimes that means a favourite variety we’ve hoped for and sometimes the garden offers something even better.

Small weddings

I have a particular soft spot for small weddings.

The sort where the flowers don’t need to take over the room. A beautiful bridal bouquet, a few smaller bouquets or buttonholes, flowers for the ceremony.

Loose, gardeny arrangements running along a table, or a bucket of flowers for somebody who would rather arrange a few themselves.

Nothing needs to be enormous to feel special. And your flowers certainly don’t need to look like anybody else’s wedding flowers. They just need to feel like yours.

Gatherings & celebrations

Of course, not every gathering involves a wedding dress.

Flowers can make something wonderfully celebratory out of an otherwise ordinary space.

A birthday lunch. An anniversary. A baby shower. A family celebration. A dinner with a table full of people you love.

Depending on the season and what you need, I can create bouquets, table flowers and simple arrangements using flowers from the Patch and other locally grown flowers where necessary.

Small, thoughtful and made especially for the occasion.

A little bit Appleyard Patch

If you’ve found your way here, chances are you’re probably not looking for flowers that are perfectly uniform or heavily prescribed.

You might like things a little softer, a little looser. Perhaps slightly unruly around the edges. Flowers with movement. Scent. Interesting foliage. Old-fashioned varieties. Tiny details you notice when you sit beside them at the table.

That’s the sort of floristry I love. Flowers that still look as though they remember being in the garden.

How it works

You don’t need to know the names of flowers.

You don’t need to arrive with a Pinterest board and seventeen pages of instructions. You can simply tell me about your day. When and where it is, roughly what you’ll need. The colours and feeling you’re drawn to, and anything else that’s particularly important to you.

From there, we can work out whether Appleyard Patch is the right fit and what might be possible within the season and your budget. No complicated process. Just a conversation to begin with.

Tell me about your gathering

If you’re planning a wedding, celebration or gathering and would like the flowers to feel seasonal, garden-grown and a little bit different, I’d love to hear about it.
